Pawnee 5th Graders Help Haiti Survivers With "Haiti Crazy Day"

"Haiti Crazy Day"

The 5th Grade class here at our own Pawnee Elementary School has done a tremendous job of raising funds to help with the relief effort in Haiti.

Pawnee Fifth grader, Faith Gresham was watching the news the morning the reports came in regarding the earthquakes happening in Haiti.  She realized they desperately needed help and decided to do something about it.  That day at school she approached her class President, Ryan Hamilton and Vice President, Brennen Young.

Young and Hamilton were currently serving a 4-week term in office and were required to lead a service project for the 5th grade during their term.  They held a meeting with the other 5th grade Presidents and Vice Presidents, Michael West, Morgan Worker, Trey Allen, and Logan Willard to brainstorm for ideas of what kind of problems would be faced by the people of Haiti in this situation and how we as Americans could help.  They knew they needed to act as quickly as possible because the Haitian people needed help NOW!

The students decided it would be very expensive to ship food or clothing items and that the best thing to send would be cash.  They then came up with an idea to raise cash.  They would host a “CRAZY DAY”.  Students who bring a cash donation of at least $1 for Haiti could dress up in any crazy manner they wished (as long as it followed the school’s dress code).  The committee made flyers and copied and distributed them to the entire Elementary student body.

Mrs. Sitze's Crazy Day Class

Just three days later, we had students dressed backwards, inside out, with crazy hair, in pajamas, in a suit and tie, dressed as gangsters, hippies, and just plain crazy.  In one day, the student’s raised $516.64 that we sent to the Convoy of Hope to help with Haiti Relief.  The 5th Grade would like to say thank you to all the Pawnee Elementary students for participating in “CRAZY DAY” and for their donations to help the people of Haiti.
