State Academic Improvement Award
The 2008 Academic Improvement Awards honor schools for substantial gains in performance over the last few years. The awards recognize schools that have sustained an upward trend in test scores for at least three years and showed a 7.5 point increase this year or a 15 point increase in test scores over the past three years.
Of the Illinois schools that were honored, 35% are Chicago schools, 27% are suburban schools, and 39% are downstate schools. Seventy five percent of the Academic Improvement Awards were earned by elementary schools, 16% of the awards were earned by junior high schools, and only 9% of the awards were earned by high schools.
There were 1031 awards in 2006, 607 in 2007, and only 153 schools that earned awards in 2008. Research is not yet available to explain the steep drop in the number of awards this year. Pawnee CUSD # 11 is proud to be in this elite group.
